Dennis Smith is a native of Utah, Where he lived for most of his life. He grew up in a small farming community south of Salt Lake City, and was always aware of a strong inclination toward visual arts. He studied sculpture at Brigham Young University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in 1966. After a year of graduate work he moved to Copenhagen, Denmark with his young family to study at the Danish Royal Academy. He then returned to Utah, where he set up his first studio. His sculpture has always centered around child themes, executed in a day, wax or plaster and cast into bronze.
